Tim Hochgrebe is a Photographer / Videographer currently living in Byron Bay. He is devoted to increase our awareness of the wonderful and diverse marine life that surrounds us. Tim originates from Germany where he finished his Biology degree BSc (Hons) before moving to Australia to complete his science education with a PhD (Sydney University).

He has been a keen diver and marine biology enthusiast for more than 13 years and spent over three years as President of Sydney University Underwater Club. The photos in this series were all captured at Julian Rocks Marine Reserve in Byron Bay and aim to remind us of the beautiful life beneath the sea. At the moment Tim uses the SONY 3 chip digital video camera TRV-900 in an IKELITE housing to produce his clips and photos.

Together with Wandy Brouwer, Tim operates PLANULA Diver's Retreat in Byron Bay. Specialising in dive accommodation packages with a difference, PLANULA Diver's Retreat is equipped with everything a diver needs. PLANULA guides dives (Tim is an experienced Dive Master) to point out behaviour of marine life such as mating rituals or defending territory, or to show eggs of different life forms and explaining general biology. Most dives will be captured on digital video and can be relived at home.

In a fun and relaxing way PLANULA creates marine awareness promoting the slogan: “The more you know, the more you see!” The extensive reference library is a great help with identification of different species using books, a CD-ROM collection and the internet.
