What
is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is an approach
to health care focusing on the treatment of the Musculo-skeletal
system - it's joints, muscles and connective tissue, with 'hands
on' techniques that aim to:
* release muscular and connective tissue contractions
* increase the quality and range of motion in restricted joints
As the body is an integrated unit of many parts, improving function
of the musculo-skeletal system will affect the health of the whole.
Who
can benefit?
Anyone whose disorder involves the physical body.
Some ailments commonly
treated by Osteopathy
include;
* neck and spinal conditions
and headaches
* arthritis and neuralgia
* traumatic and repetitive strain injuries
* postural, Digestive and breathing ailments eg. frozen shoulder,
constipation, athsma
* developmental difficulties in children
* chronic fatigue and depression
Consultation
and Treatment
Osteopaths gather important information through careful questioning
and examination using sensitive, palpatory skills. Occasionally
x-rays or other helpful investigations may be requested.
Treatment involves soft tissue massage and various adjustment
procedures carried out on joints and their supportive, connective
tissues. Subtler techniques are used to effect organs.
To compliment the treatment process, advice will be given on exercizes,
correct posture and breathing.
Osteopathic
management
A variable number of treatments
may be needed, depending on the nature of your disturbances. Where
deep-seated patterns are addressed you may feel challenges and
discomfort - if you have any concerns regarding your treatments
please discuss them with your practitioner.
