Elton Jay Buchanan

Painting for Elton is an emotional Screen on which to dip, dab, swirl, blend, and stroke his way to his innermost questions and discoveries. In that space he experiences his ambitions and frustrations in a continual dance of blending energy.

Each image is dedicated to the exploration and experimentaion of new techniques, in a pilgrimage to evolve to deeper levels of richness, vision, and expression, through the balancing of light, colors, and form.

Elton has articulated artistic freedom throughout his life. In 1996 he began a series of primative urban works which visually vibrated off the canvas with passionate screams and caffine saturated characters.
He discribes his latest portraitures as 'a mere moment in time' of someones story. A story that is only limited by the onlookers imagination. It comes from anywhere, and leads to everywhere.

Painting with both oils and acrylics on anything needing liberation; canvas, paper, broken skateboards, old car parts, and any boards not safely out of reach from neighbors and construction sites.

In the last several years elton has expanded his surface to include the human body, following a tattoo apprenticeship in Seaside Oregon, U.S.A. Continuing his education in Western Australia's leading tattoo shop "W.A. INK" Fremantle.

While in pratical terms, Elton emerged as a full time artist in October of 2000. Elton considers his lifetime commitment to fresh expression as a continual emergance.

Born 1974 in Taupo, New Zealand. Raised in Tongariro National Park, Rotorua, and Paraparaumu on the North Island of New Zealand until moving overseas to North America in 1995. Residing in Whistler B.C. Canada, Mt. Baker Washington U.S.A., Aspen Colorado, Gearhart Oregon, Sunvally Idaho, and Cannon Beach Oregon, over a period of five and a half years. Migrating to Fremantle Western Australia in 1999, and finally settling in Byron Bay March 2001.
